Clean glass jar
Polycarbonate cement is a type of acrylic adhesive that is used to bond two materials together. It is also known as ABS plastic. It is similar in texture to glue. It is often used to attach acrylic and other plastics together. Polycarbonate cement is made out of pieces from a sheet of acrylic and a solvent. The two ingredients are mixed together to form the polycarbonate cement.
Set a sheet of acrylic down on a flat surface with the end of the sheet hanging over the edge by at least two inches. Set a C-clamp down on top of the acrylic and tighten it down in place. This will hold the acrylic down and prevent it from moving when you are scraping off the edge.
Video of the Day
Slide a utility knife along the edge of the acrylic and begin scraping off small pieces of the acrylic. Move the knife back and forth from side to side and remove small shards of the knife from the acrylic. Pick up the pieces as they fall off and put them in a clean glass jar.
Slice off small pieces of the acrylic with the utility knife and continue putting them in the clean glass jar. Pour in 4 ounces of acetone directly on top of the pieces of acrylic you have set in the jar.
Mix the two together with a knife. Stir them so the acetone covers up all of the shards of acrylic. Move the knife back and forth to verify it covers the entire area and let the mixture settle for at least 24 hours.
Inspect the mixture and verify there are no visible pieces of acrylic. They should be mixed in with the acetone. Check that it is sticky. Test it out on any scrap surface. Apply the tested polycarbonate cement to the desired objects.
